Ontario Launches E-Waste Program |

The Province of Ontario launched Phase 1 its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equuipment (WEEE) Extended Producer Responsibility Program on April 1, 2009. EPR's require manufacturer's and first importers to take responsibility for the cost of recycling products, rather than Municipalities. In 2004, the ZWATeam worked with Pack Pros Plus to develop infrastructure for e-waste recycling in Northwestern Ontario. More than 400,000 pounds of e-waste have been diverted from landfill by Pack Pros as a result. Ontario Electronic Stewardship has designated Pack Pros as the consolidation point and collector for E-Waste for the 705-807 area. Fro more information contact Patrick Fenlon at 344-8799.
WEEE Phase 1 Materials include: Desktop and laptop computers; keyboards, mice and other peripherals; monitors; desktop printers; disk drives; fax machines and televisions.
