"Close to 100 representatives of the the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Sector and MOE officials from across NWO attended a 3Rs Regulations 102-103 Workshop held at the Victoria Inn on March 25. The ZWATeam partnered with the City of Thunder Bay, Ministry of the Environment, Ontario Health Care Housekeepers' Association and the Victoria Inn to hold the workshop in order to raise awareness about the Regulations and to encourage IC&I sector compliance. These Regulations require designated hotels and motels, hospitals, large retail, construction and demolition projects, multi-unit residential, industry and schools to do annual waste audits and work plans. The MOE has hired 10 new inspectors to expand inspections across the Province. Tom Hansen, Inspector with the Province's Sector Compliance Branch gave an overview of the Regulations and provided a waste audit and work plan toolkit. A reporter with the Chronicle Journal quoted Mr. Hansen as saying, "Audits are a proactive approach to identify what can be recycled and how these sectors can reduce their waste output." Dan Munshaw, CTB Manager of Materials Management gave a presentation on Sustainable Environmental and Ethical Purchasing Policies. This was followed by sector specific presentations and a panel discussion.
